Welcome

Welcome to cheminformatics.co.uk, an informational site for data science and chemoinformatics tools.

I have written cheminformatics.co.uk as a result of being laid off in a tough labour market.  This website has been intended to represent my portfolio post-PhD, but also to make some comments on the opinion I have, that data science and cheminformatics are fundamentally not that different.  Not many people seem to talk about it, and I have not observed much movement of individuals between the two disciplines.  I thought that this site would help break down the barriers somewhat.

Expect to see more content in the future, on chemistry, data science, and practices between the two in general.  Many of these unsurprisingly will be personal anecdotes, though stories, often personal ones, yield the most interesting information in my experience.  Hopefully some of this will be of use to you, dear reader.   Who knows, maybe you may even be interested in adding content to this here site!

I will remark that cheminformatics and chemoinformatics, as some call it, are the same thing.  The latter term relates to bioinformatics, another discipline which is said to require lots of biology specific knowledge.  However again, I argue that a data scientist can get competent at a sector of bioinformatics and/or cheminformatics after a few weeks of reading around the subject.  Not too dissimilar from most other disciplines.

Until later!
